A report by the Organization of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) warned
that global agricultural production needs to grow 60% by 2050 to meet international
food demand in view of population growth projected for these years.

According to FAO estimates, this increase in production means 1 billion additional tons
of cereals and 200 million tons of meat per year. Countries like Brazil, China, Indonesia,
Thailand, Russia and Ukraine may be in the coming years the nations that contribute to
a sustained increase in global agricultural production.
