2015: the ‘International Year of Soils’

Officially declared by the UN in December, 2014

 Why was this necessary?

The FAO estimates that a third of all soils are degraded, due to erosion, compaction, soil sealing, salinisation, soil organic matter and nutrient depletion, acidification, pollution and other processes caused by unsustainable land management practices.

The Writing on the Wall

Unless measures are not taken quickly to curtail the damage being done to our soils, we are likely to face a crisis in our food supply.

The FAO video below gives an excellent idea of the problem facing us.

An opportunity exists for our industry to work together to ensure that our soils are not just preserved, but improved for the coming generations.

With exhausted soils under-performing, a little beneficial matter will go a long way and results are quick to be seen. A market is ready and waiting to be tapped!

Solutions for our planet ?

Nico Orgo offers a wide range of soil fertility and soil health products. Our fertilisers help repair damaged soil by reactivating microbial populations, enriching the soils with organic matter and organic carbon; and controlling erosion through improved soil structures.

Our customisable products also help in reducing the populations on harmful soil-borne pests such as root-knot nematodes and several species of fungi.

Using our fertilisers to help the soil sequester CO2 can also reduce the impact of climate change.

Our products have the ability to accelerate biodiversity and create a richer environment for beneficials such as earthworms and honeybees!
